CARDS GET THEIR SECOND BASEMAN

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired second baseman Ronnie Belliard from the Cleveland Indians for infielder Hector Luna.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals entered the season with two big holes they should have filled in the off-season: left field and second base. They finally filled the latter hole by acquiring Belliard. He's exactly the kind of player they needed just to fill the void -- a guy who can hit for average with a little pop and play reliable defense. Luna had been doing a decent job in the second-base merry-go-round, but Belliard is a definite upgrade.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Luna is still relatively young and talented enough to be their first option for the next few years at second base, considering they don't have any significant prospects at the position. He's a steady contact hitter with some speed, though his defense does raise some questions.
