GERUT GOES TO THE CUBS
The Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Jody Gerut from the Cleveland Indians for outfielder Jason Dubois.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have been searching for left-field help all season long, and now have two decent options: Gerut and rookie Matt Murton. Look for a platoon between the lefty-swinging Gerut and right-handed Murton, though the latter has been red-hot to begin his big-league career. Down the road, left field should be Murton's job to lose.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
In Dubois, the Tribe add a big bat with no position to play. He's best suited to serve as the DH, but Travis Hafner blocks his path on his new team. He was brutal in left field for Chicago earlier this season, so right field in Cleveland is not an option. Dubois could see playing time against left-handers, but may not be a factor in Ohio until 2006.
