RAYS ADD INFIELD DEPTH
The Tampa Bay Devils Rays acquired infielder Brendan Harris from the Cincinnati Reds for cash.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Just a few years ago, Harris was a significant prospect with the Cubs and Expos/Nationals. Now 26, his stock has fallen some but he still has some promise as a versatile infielder with a little pop in his bat who has shown the ability to hit for average in the minors. With the Rays stacked around the infield, he'll have to try to earn a reserve job or else start another season down at Triple-A.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
Having little need for another backup infielder in Cincy, Harris was expendable. So anything they get in return will be gravy.
