PADS GET MAYBIN FROM FLA
The San Diego Padres acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Florida Marlins for pitchers Edward Mujica and Ryan Webb.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
Maybin fills several needs for the Padres. Foremost among them: he'll bring great defensive play in center field on a regular basis. His untapped offensive potential could be a nice bonus, but they key here is San Diego stabilizes center field for the foreseeable future and get a very affordable player while also dumping some salary.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins posted the most blown saves in the National League last season (25) and were in need of more dependable short-term relief. Enter Mujica and Webb, who are both very capable righty firemen (especially Mujica). They can take some of the pressure off Florida's bullpen in middle and late situations. Maybin didn't quite pan out the way the Marlins hoped he would offensively, although they lose plenty defensively by moving him here. Florida now needs to find a new center field option going forward.
