JACOBS HEADS TO KC
The Kansas City Royals acquired first baseman Mike Jacobs from the Florida Marlins for pitcher Leo Nunez.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals will probably use Jacobs on an everyday basis at first base. He'll provide power and a decent glove at the position, though he has yet to prove he can hit left-handed pitching with consistency.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins will use Nunez out of the bullpen in 2009, possibly even as a setup man. As for first base, they are expected to shift Jorge Cantu--who split time between third and first base in 2008--to a permanent role at first.
