NATS, METS EXCHANGE INFIELDERS

The New York Mets acquired infielder Anderson Hernandez from the Washington Nationals for infielder Greg Veloz.

What does it give the New York Mets
In Hernandez the Mets get a solid defensive backup and spot-starter to provide insurance in the middle infield. With Luis Castillo also getting up there in age, Hernandez may be able to eventually take over as the regular starter. He doesn't have much of a bat but is dependable in the field.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
Veloz probably has more overall upside than Hernandez but he's not quite ready for the majors yet. He has good speed and the frame to add more power in time, so he might eventually be a solid option at second base for the Nats.
