HEIM HEADS TO THE ATHLETICS
The Athletics acquired catcher Jonah Heim from the Atlanta Braves for cash.
What does it give the Athletics
Heim provides a boost to the Athletics catching depth. Shea Langeliers should be back from the paternity leave list shortly, at which time Heim could take over from Austin Wynns as the backup. The veteran may also spell Langeliers behind the plate from time to time when he serves as the designated hitter.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
Heim served as Atlanta's backup catcher while Sean Murphy started the year on the injured list. The Braves designated him for assignment upon Murphy's return. They secured cash from the Athletics here rather than just losing Heim on waivers.
Fantasy impact
Heim's days as a fantasy catcher of note appear to be over, as the veteran is transitioning to a backup role. That will keep him off the fantasy radar.
