MacIVER MOVED TO THE BLUE JAYS
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired catcher Willie MacIver from the Texas Rangers for cash.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto is in need of catching depth while Alejandro Kirk is on the injured list, and MacIver gives them just that. The 29-year-old backstop has mainly been a minor leaguer, but he got his first MLB call-up in 2025 and appeared in 32 games with the Athletics. He should remain a No. 3 or 4 option in the Blue Jays organization.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
MacIver was filling a depth role at Triple-A, but Texas chose to move on and designate him for assignment. The Rangers took some cash in return instead of losing the veteran on waivers.
