BALTIMORE GETS ENCARNACION-STRAND
The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand from the Cincinnati Reds for cash.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
In Encarnacion-Strand, Baltimore brings in a young power hitter who has struggled with injuries and inconsistency the past few years. He provides depth at first and third base (or as the designated hitter). The Orioles already optioned the 26-year-old following the trade, but he could get a call-up if impresses his new organization in the minors.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
This is a disappointing outcome for the Reds, after Encarnacion-Strand hit 13 home runs in just 63 games as a rookie in 2023. But after his struggles, he was no longer a great fit on the roster. Cincinnati is trying to win now, so they move on with cash from Baltimore.
Fantasy impact
A fresh start with Baltimore could help Encarnacion-Strand, but he does not have a path to regular MLB playing time there either. He could still be an impact hitter, though, so keep an eye on him if he eventually gets back to the big leagues.
