BERROA PICKED UP BY PHILADELPHIA
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder Steward Berroa from the Milwaukee Brewers for cash.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
In Berroa, the Phillies add a speedy depth outfielder to the organization. He has bounced around several teams the last few seasons, never getting a sustained look in the big leagues. Philadelphia's outfield is not as deep as it once was, but Berroa is likely to serve as a bench outfielder and pinch runner if he sees time on the MLB roster. He was optioned to Triple-A following the trade.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee had quite a bit of outfield depth after recently trading for Luis Matos, so Berroa was no longer a great fit on their 40-man roster. They DFA'd him and got some cash from the Phillies instead of losing him on waivers for nothing.
Fantasy impact
Berroa is an elite base stealer in the minors, but he does not appear to be on the verge of getting much big-league playing time. That will keep him off the fantasy radar for now.
