The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Josh Simpson from the Miami Marlins for cash.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
In Simpson, the Mariners add a depth left-handed reliever. He really struggled in his MLB debut in 2025 (7.34 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 30.2 IP), though he did fare much better in Triple-A ball. With Seattle, the southpaw will likely start out in the minors. He could earn another call-up if he impresses or if injuries pile up.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins drafted Simpson back in 2019. His debut was pretty disastrous, so they ended up designating him for assignment ahead of the new season. Miami gets some cash in return from Seattle.
