JESUS SANCHEZ SENT TO TORONTO
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Houston Astros for outfielder Joey Loperfido.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
This swap gives the Blue Jays a more experienced slugging outfielder in Sanchez. He can hit for power, steal double-digit bases and get on base at a decent clip. The 28-year-old is likely to fill the strong side of a corner outfield platoon, and he should add thump to Toronto's lineup with Anthony Santander set to miss most if not all of the 2026 season.
What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros move on from Sanchez, who struggled after arriving via trade last season. They do well reacquiring Loperfido, whom they originally traded to Toronto in the Yusei Kikuchi deal of 2024. The 26-year-old outfielder is still trying to earn consistent MLB playing time, and he could now get that back in Houston. Loperfido had a solid slashline of .333/.379/.500 in 41 games with the Blue Jays in 2025.
Fantasy impact
Sanchez has value in deeper fantasy formats, but he will need to turn it quickly around after a disappointing stint with the Astros. Even so, his ceiling will still probably be around 20 home runs and 15 stolen bases. On the other hand, Loperfido has more upside, and he could finally get a longer look in a starting role with Houston. He is a good breakout candidate for 2026, so keep an eye on him.
