BALTIMORE BRINGS IN BLAZE ALEXANDER
The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder/outfielder Blaze Alexander from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitchers Kade Strowd and Wellington Aracena, and infielder Jose Mejia.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
Adding Alexander provides the Orioles with greater lineup flexibility. He is a natural infielder who can also play in the outfield. Alexander could carve out a platoon role with Baltimore this season.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona's decision to keep Ketel Marte as their starting second baseman this off-season (he was rumored to be on the trading block) likely sealed Alexander's fate with the Diamondbacks. Arizona received a nice package in return.
Fantasy impact
Alexander is unlikely to receive enough playing time in Baltimore to become a viable fantasy option this season. Strowd is a serviceable reliever who might be able to carve out a role in Arizona. Keep an eye on him. Aracena is a decent prospect who may become a starter. He might have deep keeper-league appeal. Mejia is also several years away from MLB but might be on the keeper radar as well.
