WHITE SOX GET HICKS IN TRADE WITH RED SOX
The Chicago White Sox acquired pitchers Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin, two players to be named later and cash from the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Gage Ziehl and a player to be named later.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
The White Sox are taking on Hicks' contract after his rough 2025 season. The hard-throwing right-hander had some success as a starter in 2024, but appears more likely to work out of the bullpen moving forward. This deal also got Chicago a pitching prospect in Sandlin. He is a starter who also worked as a reliever at Triple-A last season. In addition, the teams exchanged PTBNL's with the White Sox still to receive two Red Sox prospects.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
For the Red Sox, this trade was mostly a salary dump. They did bring in Ziehl, a pitching prospect, though not a highly ranked one. In his first pro season, the right-hander worked his way up to Double-A ball. He went in the fourth round of the 2024 draft. Boston will also get another prospect from Chicago's organization at a later date.
Fantasy impact
This trade will not change a lot in fantasy baseball. Hicks has minimal value at the moment, but keep an eye on him if he earns a high-leverage role in Chicago's bullpen. Sandlin and Ziehl are not on the fantasy radar at this time.
