METS PICK UP PERALTA AND MYERS
The New York Mets acquired pitchers Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers for pitcher Brandon Sproat and infielder Jett Williams.
What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets are bringing in a ton of new talent this off-season, and this trade will upgrade their pitching staff in a big way. Peralta is one of the more consistent starters in baseball, and he is coming off his best season yet. He should be the new ace in New York. Myers is a right-hander who had a down year, following a breakout 2024 season. The 27-year-old still has potential and will challenge for a rotation spot, but he might end up in the bullpen or be a depth option at Triple-A. The Mets moved some top prospects to do this deal, but they are serious about contending after a late collapse in 2025.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers are retooling on the fly, so they targeted two prospects who are close to being MLB-ready. Sproat, a promising right-handed starter, debuted for the Mets in 2025. He is on the verge of joining the big-league rotation but likely needs more time in the minors this year. Williams was one of New York's best infield prospects. A small but speedy infielder with some pop, he might get a look with Milwaukee at some point in 2026.
Fantasy impact
In fantasy baseball, Williams could be the biggest winner of this trade. The prospect should be able to debut in Milwaukee sooner than he would have behind New York's veteran infielders. Keep an eye on him this season. The pitchers moved here shouldn't be impacted too much after this trade. Still draft Peralta highly. Myers would need to rejoin the rotation to have fantasy value. Sproat remains a prospect to watch as he nears a regular role in the big leagues.
