ARENADO ADDED BY ARIZONA

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired infielder Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals for pitcher Jack Martinez and cash.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks take on Arenado and a portion of his contract after his disappointing 2025 season. The 34-year-old should help replace the offense Eugenio Suarez provided at third base for Arizona most of last season. The Gold Glove winner will be looking to bounce back from a season marred by injuries in which he hit .237/.289/.377 (all career worsts) with 12 home runs in 107 games.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
With Arenado on the decline, this trade is largely a salary dump for St. Louis. They are retooling and get only one pitching prospect in return. A right-hander, Martinez will just be starting his career after going in the eighth round of the 2025 draft.

Fantasy impact
Arenado gets a boost joining Arizona's offense, which has been among the league's best the last couple seasons. He also moves to a hitter-friendly home ballpark, and should hit in the middle of the order (especially against left-handed pitchers). Do not overrate the aging star, but there is reason to believe a rebound season is coming.
