EDWARD CABRERA TO THE CUBS

The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins for outfielder Owen Caissie and infielders Cristian Hernandez and Edgardo De Leon.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
In Cabrera, the Cubs add a starter with a lot of upside but also consistency issues. The 27-year-old finally put it all together for a full season in 2025, but he struggles with walks and frequently misses time with injuries. Chicago is betting on him building on his breakthrough season, and he should line up as a middle-of-the-rotation starter moving forward.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins are selling high on Cabrera. They do have lots of young pitching depth, so Miami targeted prospects on offense here. They did well getting Chicago's top prospect in Caissie, a slugging outfielder who has little more to prove in the minors. After making his MLB debut in '25, he will challenge for a roster spot right away. Hernandez and De Leon are earlier in their development but add to Miami's infield depth.

Fantasy impact
Cabrera should have a better shot at more wins with the Cubs, giving him a small boost from this trade. Do not overrate him, though, given his injury history. Likewise, Caissie will have a chance to earn a significant role in Miami's lineup sooner than he may have with Chicago. He might not be an impact hitter this season, but he is a highly-touted young player to keep an eye on in fantasy leagues the next few years.
