FERRER SENT TO SEATTLE
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Jose A. Ferrer from the Washington Nationals for catcher Harry Ford and pitcher Isaac Lyon.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
In Ferrer, the Mariners add a promising younger left-handed reliever. The 25-year-old has been a serviceable bullpen arm in Washington for a few seasons now. He can be too hittable at times, but he will give Seattle an on-the-rise southpaw who will likely pitch late in games for seasons to come.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals did well here, adding a top catching prospect in Ford. The 2021 first-round pick is on the verge of challenging for MLB playing time, and he should offer Washington more upside than their catching options of recent seasons. As for Lyon, he is a right-handed starter just selected in the 2025 draft. He will be another young arm in the organization as the Nationals continue to rebuild.
Fantasy impact
Ferrer should get a boost from this trade. He will be one of Seattle's top left-handed relievers, which should mean plenty of hold opportunities on a competitive Mariners team. Ford too will benefit from no longer being blocked by Cal Raleigh. He might not be a impact fantasy catcher right away, but keep an eye on him the next few seasons.
