The Detroit Tigers acquired infielder John McDonald from the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In an effort to improve their defense up the middle, which was already pretty good, McDonald joins the Tigers. He's a great glove man but has very little bat, so he'll serve primarily as a late-inning defensive replacement.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Needing a roster spot to call up a fifth starter for Saturday's game, the Jays opted to empty one by dealing from depth. Frank Menechino becomes the primary backup infielder.
