DOVAL DEALT TO THE YANKEES

The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Camilo Doval from the San Francisco Giants for catcher Jesus Rodriguez, pitchers Trystan Vrieling and Carlos De La Rosa, and infielder Parks Harber.

What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees are loading up their bullpen on trade deadline day, and Doval provides them with another talented late-inning reliever. He rebounded nicely this season after a tough 2024 that saw him demoted to the minors for a time. The right-hander has a 3.09 ERA with 15 saves and 7 holds on the year. He should fill a similar high-leverage role in New York, though likely more as a setup man than a closer.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants were able to secure four players for Doval as they sell at the trade deadline. None are especially high ranking prospects, but the most intriguing in the group are Vrieling (a right-handed starter) and Rodriguez (a skilled hitting catcher and third baseman). This trade improves San Francisco's prospect pool at a number of positions, and could give them some contributors at the MLB level in coming seasons.

Fantasy impact
Doval loses value as he is likely to get more holds than saves in New York's deep bullpen (which includes Devin Williams and David Bednar). His departure from San Francisco, however, should make Randy Rodriguez the closer there. Get Rodriguez if you still can.
