PIRATES PICK UP CANARIO
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired outfielder Alexander Canario from the New York Mets for cash.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Just a month after a trade to the Mets, Canario will now join the Pirates. He is a power hitter who struggles with strikeouts, but he is still young (24) and will get a chance to prove himself in Pittsburgh. Canario may see some at-bats in the outfield and at designated hitter.
What does it give the New York Mets
Despite having a strong spring, Canario was not a great fit for New York's lineup this season. So, they designated him for assignment on opening day. Given Canario's potential at the plate, the Mets were able to add cash in return from the Pirates.
Fantasy impact
Canario gets an immediate boost from this trade. He may not have an everyday role with the Pirates right away, but there will be an opportunity for more playing time on a team that lacks power hitters. Keep a close eye on Canario in Pittsburgh.
