RANGERS, RAYS SWAP SIX
The Texas Rangers acquired first basemen Nate Lowe and Jake Guenther, and a player to be named later from the Tampa Bay Rays for catcher/first baseman Heriberto Hernandez, infielder Osleivis Basabe and outfielder Alexander Ovalles.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
For the Rangers, adding Lowe should help upgrade the first base position, which has been a trouble spot for the franchise in recent years. They added even more depth at the position with the acquisition of Guenther, who is a long-range first base prospect.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays use a lot of different lineups, with different players playing multiple positions, so they were OK with letting Lowe go here in order to acquire three long-range prospects--highlighted by Hernandez. The latter could be a long-term solution at catcher or first base for TB.
Fantasy impact
Lowe's fantasy value should improve if he wins the first base job in Texas. The other four (known) players involved in this deal are keeper radar material for the time being. Hernandez could be drafted in deeper keeper formats. Otherwise, keep an eye on the rest.
