REDS GET CORMIER FOR PROSPECT
The Cincinnati Reds acquired pitcher Rheal Cormier from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Justin Germano.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
The Reds continue to be absolutely desperate for bullpen help, despite recent moves, and as long as Cormier doesn't succumb to the jinx that has affected the current Cincy bullpen, he should help them. At 39, he's not the kind of guy who can be used a lot, but his left arm and the breaking stuff that comes out of it can still retire the best left-handed hitters.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Adding to their collection of promising starters, the Phillies landed Germano. Just 23, the righty has been very consistent throughout his minor-league career. More than anything, his advanced feel for pitching has been the key to his success. But he also has good stuff, like a moving, low-90s fastball and a nasty curve. He's ready to join the Philly rotation any time now. Philadelphia may have got a steal here.
