PROFAR PICKED UP BY THE PADRES

The San Diego Padres acquired infielder Jurickson Profar from the Oakland Athletics for catcher Austin Allen and a player to be named later.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
In Profar, the Padres land a switch-hitting infielder who has yet to fully break out at the big-league level. Still only 26 years old, Profar boasts back-to-back 20 home run campaigns but has struggled to hit with consistency in MLB. He should get a chance to shine in San Diego, who recently traded projected second baseman Luis Arias to Milwaukee--opening the door for Profar to slot in at the keystone position.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
In his only season with the Athletics, after spending eight years in the Texas Rangers organization, Profar batted only .218 in 2019. He was not a great fit in Oakland, so the team shipped him to the Padres for Allen. The latter is a fairly solid offensive catcher who may split duties with Sean Murphy on the A's in 2020. Oakland will also receive another future asset or cash in this deal. Nice.

Fantasy impact
Profar may have landed in a better situation with the Padres for 2020, but he is not a great fantasy asset at this time. He should be a late-round draft option in most leagues and expectations for him must start to come down a notch. As for Allen, he has some draft intrigue as a possible late-round steal. His stock has gone way up after this trade.
