PIRATES, A'S TRADE MINOR LEAGUERS
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Corey Wimberly from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Ryan Kelly.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
A speedy utility player, Wimberley is already 27. He can play both as an infielder and outfielder (though he's a more natural fit at 2B) and posted nice stats at Triple-A Sacramento in 2010, including 56 stolen bases and a .284 batting average.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The decent 23-year-old prospect could eventually develop into a starting pitcher in the big leagues. Kelly has shown some promise with Single-A West Virginia these past two years, but needs some more seasoning before advancing to the next level.
