With Isiah Kiner-Falefa now on the Injured List with a finger injury, the Rangers needed a depth catcher behind Jeff Mathis. Enter Federowicz, a journeyman's journeyman who will provide some support behind the plate during Kiner-Falefa's absence.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Indians did not have much use for the veteran Federowicz, who had been toiling in the minors in 2019. So Cleveland moved the catcher to Texas in exchange for a future asset. The player to be named later will not likely make much of an impact.
Fantasy impact
Federowicz is mostly a receiver who calls a good game and provides some leadership. He is devoid of any fantasy value at the highest level.
