PILLAR PICKED UP BY SAN FRANCISCO
The San Francisco Giants acquired outfielder Kevin Pillar from the Toronto Blue Jays for infielder/outfielder Alen Hanson plus pitchers Juan De Paula and Derek Law.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
In Pillar, the Giants land one of the best defensive center-fielders in baseball. Offensively, he runs hot and cold but should still help a San Francisco lineup that is severely lacking in quality bats. Furthermore, the right-handed Pillar will help balance the batting order a little (since teams have already been stacking their rotations with left-handers against the Giants). This is a good move for San Francisco and Pillar did not cost much at all.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto is clearly headed for a lengthy rebuild, as Pillar is already the team's second everyday player to be shipped out in 2019 (after former DH Kendrys Morales, who was traded to Oakland). Hanson will serve a utility man role in Toronto, while Law will add bullpen depth within the organization. The key to this deal for Toronto is De Paula, who is only 21 and boasts a live arm. Toolsy Anthony Alford will now take over in center field for the rebuilding Jays.
Fantasy impact
Pillar moves to a new league in a pitchers' park, so this move may have actually hurt his fantasy stock. Alford is the clear winner after this trade and is worth a pickup in most deep leagues due to his speed. De Paula should already be on the fantasy radar and has some keeper value at this time. Hanson and Law are not fantasy-worthy options at this point.
