PADRES PICK UP PITCHER WISLER
The San Diego Padres acquired pitcher Matt Wisler from the Cincinnati Reds for pitcher Diomar Lopez.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
In Wisler, the Padres bring back a pitcher they originally drafted and signed in 2011. He has since bounced around two organizations and been used in several different roles. San Diego hopes he can find a home pitching out of their bullpen in 2019.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
The Reds recently designated Wisler for assignment, after he failed to lock up a job in a relief role. So, they shipped him to San Diego in exchange for Lopez (a 22-year-old right-hander who can strike plenty of batters out in the low minors).
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as Wisler will probably fill a long relief role with the Padres. Lopez, meanwhile, is at least a few years away from contending for a bullpen role in Cincinnati.
