VALERA SENT TO SAN FRANCISCO FOR CASH

The San Francisco Giants acquired infielder Breyvic Valera from the Baltimore Orioles for cash.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The 27-year-old Valera could become a decent backup with the Giants. Valera can play all over the infield and he can hit a little bit as well. Look for him to compete with Alen Hanson (and others) for a roster spot in spring training.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
Valera had been recently designated for assignment by the Orioles, so they were at least able to recuperate some cash in exchange for his services. Baltimore is in rebuilding mode, so the need for a super-sub infielder lessens.

Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as Valera does not carry a major stick even if he were to steal playing time away from one of San Francisco's everyday infielders (or in case of injury).
