PHILLIES BRING IN BOUR

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired first baseman Justin Bour and cash from the Miami Marlins for pitcher McKenzie Mills.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies claimed Bour on revocable waivers (possibly in order to prevent him from being dealt to another National League contender), but Miami's former starting first baseman will come off the bench in Philadelphia (due to the presence of veteran switch-hitter Carlos Santana at first). The Phils also got the Marlins to cover some of Bour's remaining salary through 2020.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
For the Marlins, this deal sheds a bit of salary and brings in a decent pitching prospect in Mills (who is still at least a year away, and probably more, from reaching MLB). By moving Bour, Miami can now move Derek Dietrich back to the infield to play first base (he had been in left field this season). That said, Dietrich may not be the long-term solution at first base either. Miami needs help.

Fantasy impact
Whatever fantasy value Bour still maintained is now lost, as he will serve a pinch-hitting role with the Phillies. He may be moved again this off-season, but his chances of returning to a starting role at first base seem remote at this time. As for Mills, he is off the radar until further notice.
