LYNN LEAVES MINNESOTA FOR NEW YORK

The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Lance Lynn and cash from the Minnesota Twins for first baseman/outfielder Tyler Austin and pitcher Luis Rijo.

What does it give the New York Yankees
In Lynn, the Yankees add pitching depth and an insurance policy for the starting rotation. The veteran right-hander is mainly a starter but will probably be used mostly in long relief (barring injuries) for the Bronx Bombers. The Twins will pick up some of the remaining salary left on Lynn's contract (which runs through 2018).

What does it give the Minnesota Twins
In Austin, the Twins add a power hitter who could be a solution to their shortage for the rest of 2018 and beyond. He has yet to prove he can be a consistent, everyday player in MLB but there is still time. He is a good addition, as is the 19-year-old Rijo (who offers plenty of long-term upside as a starting pitcher).

Fantasy impact
Lynn's numbers may improve as a Yankee but his fantasy stock is down because he is expected to serve the role of a No. 6 starter or swingman in New York. Meanwhile, Austin and Rijo should now be in better situations for their big-league futures. Austin may be picked up immediately in all leagues, as Minnesota will likely give him an audition with regular playing time for the rest of '18. Rijo can be picked up in keeper leagues, either right away or late in drafts next year.
