CAMERON HEADS TO SAN DIEGO
The San Diego Padres acquired outfielder Mike Cameron from the New York Mets for first baseman Xavier Nady.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
With veteran outfielder Brian Giles possibly on the move via free agency, Cameron gives the Pads a solid replacement. He'll slip in to center field as a two-time Gold-Glover and into the middle of the lineup with his good speed-and-power tools. Of course, Cameron missed the last couple of months of 2005 after suffering a nasty head injury in San Diego, but he's expected to be at full speed for spring training.
What does it give the New York Mets
At 27, Nady has yet to play a full season as a regular in the majors but still has impressive potential. He's a kid who plays hard and has plenty of power, which has been on display in his limited playing time with the Padres. He's not a great defender, whether in the outfield or at an infield corner, but if he's not repackaged in another trade this winter, he'll slip in as the regular first baseman for the Mets.
