SCHIMPF SHIPPED TO ATLANTA BY THE RAYS
The Atlanta Braves acquired infielder Ryan Schimpf from the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves could use more infield depth, so Schimpf might be a nice fit in Atlanta. The Braves did not give up much to land the 29-year-old journeyman, but his left-handed bat might serve the team well in 2018.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays decided to designate Schimpf for assignment recently, so he apparently was not a good fit for the rebuilding Rays. They did well to at least land an asset for Schimpf (though the return will likely be cash).
Fantasy impact
Atlanta has Johan Camargo and prospect Rio Ruiz as third base candidates this season, but Schimpf and his left-handed bat might steal some playing time away from Camargo (ahead of Ruiz). Therefore, Schimpf enters the '18 campaign as a fantasy dark horse.
