PIRATES BRING IN RELIEVER JOAQUIN BENOIT
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Joaquin Benoit from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Seth McGarry.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are still in the hunt for the NL Central division title, so bringing in Benoit makes some sense here. He will probably be used in a setup role, and the Phillies threw in some cash to help pay for the deal.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
In McGarry, the Phillies add a quality late-inning relief prospect who is 23 years old and putting up great numbers in high Single-A ball this season. He has a chance to pitch in Philadelphia by 2018, and is a budding closer.
Fantasy impact
This move should help Benoit in the short term, and McGarry in the long run. At the end of the day, this was a solid move for all parties involved.
