METS GET GREEN FROM D'BACKS
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Shawn Green and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Evan MacLane.
What does it give the New York Mets
Ever since trading Xavier Nady to the Pirates on July 31, the Mets have been lacking a consistent bat in right field. The injury to left-fielder Cliff Floyd hasn't helped, either. Green should help them there. Though his power hasn't been what it used to be, he could pick up the pace playing for a contender and with his old buddy Carlos Delgado by his side. They've also got Green for at least one more season, with an option for 2008.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Above all right now, this deal gives the D'backs the opportunity to play promising rookie slugger Carlos Quentin on a daily basis in right field. In MacLane they get a young lefty who has boosted his prospect status with a good season at Double- and Triple-A this year. He's a potential September call-up and could get a look in the spring for an open rotation spot.
